Dressing up is a bore

Today’s card features Katherine a gorgeous stamp from Kraftin’ Kimmie.

I’ve used the colour inspiration from Color Throwdown to do up my card.  I’ve used two of the colours on the image for her dress and picked up the third colour on the card itself in the border and on the rectangle elements.  I’ve made these using alcohol ink although I didn’t have the right colour in my alcoholic inks so I just used Various Ink for it.  The yellow colour is a bit gold toned so I used some Gold Mixative for added interest on the rectangles.

The layout of my card follows the current sketch at CAS Colours & Sketches, I just added in my image over the top of the background elements.  The fab quote stamp comes with Katherine and perfectly suits the friend this card is going out to.

Over at 4 Crafty Chicks they’re looking for CAS projects so I am entering my card in their challenge.  I am loving the colour combo on her dress and the CAS design that allows Katherine to take centre stage.

…just before he went mad, you know…

I’ve got my March tag for Tim Holtz’s 12 Tags of 2016 to share today.

I’ve left this one almost to the last minute as I was a bit stuck for inspiration as my dies weren’t helping me for the main cut out on the textured surface.  But the cute bunny cookies at If You Give a Crafter a Cookie gave me the idea of a bunny and just hand cutting the image; I mean who hasn’t been stuck without the right cookie cutter and improvised with a knife freehand?  Figured paper had to be easier than cookie dough, right?  So off I went to Google to find a nice bunny silhouette I could cut by hand.  I found this very dapper bunny silhouette over at Ebot where it was posted for use by others.  Have to admit mine doesn’t look exactly the same, hand cutting corrugated box cardboard turned out to be hard going.

When it came to the layered die cut I was also in a bit of a bother as I don’t have Tim’s edgeless dies.  Got my thinking cap on and decided I wanted to give my tag a Steampunk twist.  The answer was, of course, gears for the die cuts and I found just the one in my collection, did some snipping and repositioning of part of it but achieved a look I was quite happy with.  As my die wasn’t edgeless I didn’t end up with the plain tag areas in Tim’s sample but I am glad I didn’t as it meant the bunny’s hat ended up showing the patterned paper and thus looking different to the bunny himself.

The colours I’ve used to colour up the layered die cuts are somewhat bright but also with a bit of a grunge element to bring it back to the Steampunk theme. To finish off I’ve added some metal embellies.  I don’t have the new Quote Bands and none of the Word Bands I have had a suitable quote so I went with some Chitchat Seasonal Stickers but mixed it up a bit by placing these on the bunny’s hat Mad Hatter style.

My Steampunk theme and grungy style choice was deliberate as I now have a very dapper Easter tag that will go out to a male friend of mine.  So much nicer than a compound chocolate egg and easier to get into the post too!  Being masculine and Easter themed I’m entering my tag in the current challenge over at The Male Room.

There’s something in a huge balloon…

Sharing a card tonight I made for a friend using Tim Holtz’s Bird Crazy and Crazy Things stamps.

This card is going out to a male friend so I’ve kept it deliberately CAS and used the shapes and stamping to create interest.  The design follows the current sketch at Sketch Saturday, which I flipped as the crazy bird I picked seems to be looking up at something floating by so I used a balloon for the circle element over his head rather than at his feet.  To create the two-toned background I’ve used a stencil rather than designer papers.

Stencils are the current theme at CAS on Sunday so I am entering my card there.  For my colours I used the themed ones from CAS Colours & Sketches.  I don’t have Stampin’ Up inks so I substituted with Distress Inks, using Stormy Sky for the Marina Mist and Worn Lipstick for the Watermelon Wonder (which seem to match as best as I can tell through a computer monitor).  The Night of Navy I have covered with my navy cardstock base and mat.

By keeping my card CAS and using challenges for inspiration on the design elements I was able to create this card in under an hour.  The perfect thing for a spot of Monday night crafting when work in the morning means no staying up late to fiddle with embellies and selecting designer papers.

I said shake rattle and roll

Sharing a cute card I made for my nephew featuring Oscar from the Jude and the Rockers Everyday collection at Simply B Stamps.

My card follows the current sketch at Sunday Stamps.  I cut down the number of circle elements but added some extra fun by making them into windows and adding some sequin stars.  I backed the windows with some Prima paper from their Craftsman collection as I thought it went with the rocker dude image.  As I have lots of shakers I am entering my card in the current challenge at Just Us Girls.  I think little Oscar looks cool placed over the shaker elements as though he’s rocking out in front of a stage background.

Over at Sweet Stampin’ they are looking for cards for men or boys, which mine certainly is.  Although you have to skip out on the fussy and flowery elements with male projects I still think you can have fun with them and provide interest in different ways, like adding a shaker window.
